Fun Things to do in Lausanne in June

Early summer and June are ideal times to visit Lausanne. This interesting city is steeped in history and has a beautiful center teeming with restaurants, cafes, markets, and other delightful corners that attract visitors.

Thanks to its location on Lake Geneva, Lausanne offers many outdoor activities, and this time of year is the perfect time to try some of them. You will enjoy walks, beautiful landscapes, and a relaxing time on the lake. If you like adventure, you can bike by the lake or visit fun summer events. Let's begin!

Enjoy Beautiful Panoramas on Foot in the Area Around Lausanne

If you like to relax outside the city and enjoy the picturesque landscapes, expanses of green meadows, and the view of the beautiful Alps and Lake Geneva, then be sure to set aside some time for outdoor recreation.

For easy walks, we recommend La Tine de Conflens, an impressive waterfall that can be reached in about 30 minutes by walking through the forest. Once there, you will discover astonishing waterfalls; at times, you may feel like you are in a tropical paradise. Most people visit this place during the weekend, so we recommend that you choose a weekday for this trip.

Enjoy the Lake Geneva

When the temperatures rise, it's an ideal opportunity to spend time by the water. On the beaches of Geneva Island, you will have the impression that you are at the sea. Behind the port of Vidy, in the direction of Geneva, you can explore over a kilometer and a half of the beaches. You can rent paddle boats to enjoy the water, and as the temperatures rise, the beaches will be the ideal location to cool off and take a dip.

The promenade along the lake is also a perfect location for cycling and rollerblading. On the other side of the path, in Bourget Park, you will find ideal places for barbecues, picnics with friends, and summer gatherings until late at night.

Celebrate the Arrival of Summer at a Music Festival

The Fête de la Musique - the day of music, has been celebrated worldwide since 1982, every June 21st, including Lausanne. This is also the date when the festival season opens. This year, the audience can enjoy about 180 free concerts on 60 stages and about 2500 musicians, amateurs, and professionals.

Concerts are held all over the city. Squares, streets, parks, and the cathedral become stages for musicians' performances. Various musical genres, from the most innovative to the traditional, are represented at this festival, so you will surely enjoy several concerts to your taste.

Visit the City Market

On Fridays and Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the pedestrianized streets of Lausanne gather large numbers of people at the market stalls that extend from the Rue de Bourg, the central Place de la Palud, and Place de la Riponne.

There, you will find sweets, cheeses, bread, and a flea market with second-hand items, decorative pieces, and many other exciting things. Take advantage of the opportunity to try delicious food - empanadas, homemade bread, macarons, and other delicacies.

Enjoy the view from the Cathedrale de Lausanne

This Gothic cathedral, built in the 13th century, is the largest in Switzerland. The architecture is impressive, and to reach the phenomenal view, it's worth climbing the 225 steps to the top of the bell tower, from which you will have a panoramic view of the city.
