About the city

Lausanne is located on the north shore of Lake Geneva. Capital and also main town of the canton of Vaud, it is the fourth largest city in the country. In 2012, the Lausanne conurbation will account for 50 % of the population and 60 % of jobs in the canton of Vaud. Lausanne is distinguished by the large number of international sports-related institutions that it hosts. The city is home to the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and some forty international sports federations.
